(03:05:14) leetspete: powerman: Thanks for the reply on the list! I probably should've RTFS'd. (03:06:20) leetspete: iz: I originally started using Inferno to learn Plan 9. Since then I've switched to using it for everything but browser/IM/movies/mp3s. (03:08:03) leetspete: iz: I think it's a little nicer overall (being somewhat later) in terms of usability, but it's missing things like audio (on some platforms), a full-featured browser, PDF reader, etc. (03:09:20) powerman: leetspete: yeah. when you got this issue first time I think "happens", but when doublec got it too I become curious enough to investigate it, 'cos inferno services shouldn't "just die by unknown reason", this feels somewhat wrong :) (03:09:50) leetspete: powerman: Yes, I've got to rewrite my scripts. (03:10:20) leetspete: I thought the man page comment was a suggestion, not something "enforced". :) (03:33:08) doublec: leetspete: have you tried using the vnc client to use a browser/IM/movies, etc that run on another host? (03:43:56) leetspete: doublec: I've actually only used urxvt and xeyes with it, I think. It'd probably actually do fine with those, but usually I just hit a button to pop over to the browser or the screen session with my IM stuff in it. (03:45:03) doublec: it'd be possible to run bitlbee for IM on a server and use ircfs to connect to it as well. Native Inferno IM clients would be nice of course. (03:46:55) doublec: I wouldn't say no to a twitter or facebook client too (03:47:18) doublec: I wonder if there are any OAUTH libraries (03:49:41) leetspete: I had issues with getting ircfs to talk to bitlbee, but I didn't try for *too* long. (03:49:56) leetspete: So it might be completely fine. (03:52:03) iz: leetspete: cool, ty for that info (03:52:17) leetspete: doublec: I like what you are talking about and wish to discuss further. However, I have to run for a bit...Although I'm tempted to blow off social engagements for interesting things in here. (03:52:23) iz: how does plan9/inferno deal w/ stuff like 3d hardware? still all over a pseudo-file interface? (03:53:27) leetspete: iz: Inferno doesn't do 3D acceleration, unfortunately. I do have a half-done SDL port that might be able to expose some OpenGL to the OS when it is actually done. (03:54:29) leetspete: (Currently does display fine, but occasionally crashes on startup, and the keyboard handling is only semi-done.) (03:54:35) leetspete: (Mouse works, though.) (03:54:45) doublec: doublec: I'll be around/lurking later as well (03:55:06) leetspete: K. Night, gents, see you around. (03:55:15) doublec: cya :) (03:56:18) doublec: I'm currently using ircfs and wm/irc as my main irc client. It works well. I do miss nick color highliting though so I might have to do some hacking on it. (06:34:22) raphaelsc: I was wanting to install Inferno on QEMU/Bochs.. Does someone know which image I should download? (06:34:43) raphaelsc: I'm downloading this file: http://www.vitanuova.com/dist/4e/inferno-20100120.tgz (08:13:18) dreadlorde left the room (quit: Ping timeout: 252 seconds).
