Conversation with #inferno at Wed Nov 28 21:23:14 2012 on powerman-asdf@irc.freenode.net (irc) (22:38:14) powerman-asdf: Is anyone use mounting 9p filesystems (no matter remote of exported by emu on same system) by linux's native mount or by fuse? (22:38:34) powerman-asdf: I mean, use actively, not just mount, wow it works, unmount. (22:40:14) leetspete: powerman-asdf: I used it a few times via 9mount to benchmark, and just occasionally if there's something Inferno can see that Linux can't and I need a Linux program to see it. (22:40:46) powerman-asdf: Last time I tried to use linux kernel's implementation of 9p was many years ago, and attempt to really use mounted resource quickly result in kernel "oops" bug. And AFAIK 9p support in linux kernel doesn't actively supported/updated, so it's most likely doesn't change a lot since that time. (22:41:30) powerman-asdf: I've also tried to use fuse, but it's slow as damn, and AFAIK it's by design, so also unlikely will be fixed. (22:41:50) leetspete: Yeah. Linus hates user-space FSs for some reason. (22:42:26) leetspete: Gah...burned my fingertips and now cannot operate touchpad properly. (22:43:22) powerman-asdf: No, I think it's different issue. Sort of sending about two times more 9P packets than actually required for requested operation (like ls dir). (22:43:46) powerman-asdf: And keeping in mind 9P latency this result in really bad performance. (23:13:08) raphaelsc left the room (quit: Remote host closed the connection).
