I've stopped nearly all processes on my system, and loadavg was still about 350 and slowly decreasing. also, I notice about 5-10 processes can't be killed - even with kill -9. (02:08:24) leetspete: powerman: Uninterruptible sleep? I have that issue with Linux. (02:09:22) leetspete: Especially with network stuff. Seems semi-random, when a network socket closes and the process is blocked sending/receiving and isn't alerted that it's closed. (02:20:05) powerman: leetspete: yeah, I think this is more probable than zombies. I've attached to these processes using strace (and I don't think it's possible with zombies) - it show nothing and also hangs - I've killed it using only -9 (02:24:05) leetspete: powerman: Okay, then that's the same thing I've gotten. strace/gdb both hang. (02:25:35) leetspete: The good news is that although they increase the load average, they don't consume any actual CPU. (02:26:10) leetspete: But it's annoying as hell. And if they were listening on a socket, there's no way to get it back; you've got to pick another port. (02:51:21) powerman: leetspete: you think it's related to inferno in any way, or just some general linux bug? (02:52:17) leetspete: powerman: I usually don't get it in Inferno. (02:52:39) leetspete: But I've gotten it usually with network stuff, always with I/O. (07:42:23) raphaelsc left the room (quit: Remote host closed the connection).
